Formal Education and Training:

I am a licensed Professional Counselor certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Counseling from the University of Oregon in 1973. Major course work included: Counseling Principles, Human Development, Marriage and Family Counseling, Psychotherapeutic Models and Family Dynamics. To maintain my license I participate in professionally-related continuing education classes, under the supervision of Michael O'Connell, Ph.D.

Philosophical Approach:

I believe that as human beings we are constantly challenged to stand up and learn how to be true to ourselves. Counseling and guidance is appropriate during times when a person's inner strength has become overwhelmed, confused or blocked by the myriad influences in their life. Resolving life issues is a very complex matter that involves learning new skills, such as: Letting go of repressed emotions, healing painful memories of traumatic events, correcting obsolete belief systems and communicating feelings and needs more directly.

My aim as a therapist is to provide my clients with a safe, nonjudgmental environment where they can honestly face their problems and explore their inner resources. With increased awareness and skill in moving with thought and emotions, one experiences relief from psychological and spiritual distress.
